WLSCC's PROPOSED Election Endorsement Policy

All comments will be reviewed by the Board and will not be available to the public.
The deadline for comments is Friday, March 8, 2019.
Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County may endorse candidates for judicial office or office of the District Attorney if there is a candidate whose qualifications align with the mission of Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County.
Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County may consider any relevant criteria in determining whether to make an endorsement, including but not limited to:
a) Whether, and to what extent, a candidate has promoted the advancement of women in the legal profession;
b) Whether, and to what extent, a candidate has been an active advocate for the concerns of women in society;
c) Whether, and to what extent, Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County believes that the candidate will further the mission of Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County if the candidate is elected;
d) The experience, skills, and qualifications of the candidate for the position they are seeking; and
e) The potential effects of the endorsement of the candidate and/or the candidate’s election to office on the mission of the Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County.
Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County may request written materials from candidate(s) including, but not limited to, a résumé, candidate statement, or references.
Women Lawyers of Santa Cruz County shall form an Endorsement Committee of active board members, which shall 1) determine whether there are any elections for which a potential endorsement may be considered, 2) gather information regarding the candidates, and 3) make recommendations regarding potential endorsements to the Board of Directors.
A vote to endorse a candidate must pass by three-fourths’ majority of the votes actually cast by the Board of Directors.
